Community Medical Center, a Barnabas Health facility, received an A in the first ever Hospital Safety Score as announced by Leapfrog, an independent, national not-for-profit organization of employer purchasers of healthcare and the nations leading experts on patient safety. Community Medical Center is the only hospital in Ocean County to receive a grade of A and one of five Barnabas Health facilities to achieve this distinction.
The Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospitals overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. The data included preventing falls, bedsores and infections, administering antibiotics before surgery, and other safety requirements.
Earlier this year, Community Medical Center was also named as one of Thomson Reuters Top 100 Hospitals in the Nation and as a HealthGrades Top 50 Hospital in America. Being recognized by one national rating agency is impressive; being named three times validates the strong commitment our Medical Staff and employees have made to provide high quality and safe patient care, said Stephanie L. Barnabas Health hospitals are among the leaders in New Jersey in Hospital Safety Scores that were released for by The Leapfrog Group. Five of the six Barnabas Health hospitals received an A, the highest score, and one received a B. The report cards awarded letter grades for 2,652 institutions in the nation, including New Jerseys 71 hospitals. The scores are assigned to hospitals based on infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors.
